Make 2018 Your Year

Are you ready for the greatest year of your life?

1. Spend Time with God: No matter where you are in life, you can find at least one thing to be grateful for. Having a positive attitude can be hard, especially if it doesn’t come naturally to you. But when you start to take notice of the little things that mean a lot to you, a change in your attitude will occur. Praying or Meditating is also a good way for you to take time to reflect on where you are in life and who you are as a person. Are you who you want to be? Are you living the life you want to? I encourage you to really ponder those questions, and if you aren’t then ask for help from God. He won’t let you down.

2. Set Goals: In order to create the life you’ve always wanted, you have to do a bit of planning. Start by doing some research and then spend time deciding what course of action you’re going to take. Remember, the new year (and everyday) offers you a chance to be the person you want to be.

3. Don’t be Afraid of Failure: Imagine the possibility of failure being a good thing. Seems kind of weird, right? But the truth is, failure is all about perspective. If you work hard at something, and it doesn’t turn out the way you wanted, that just means you have the advantage now. Figure out what went wrong and move on. Once you have learned from your mistakes, you can start to put a new foot forward and you might even discover there was something better waiting for you all along.

4. Branch Out: Comfort Zone- a place or situation where one feels safe or at ease and without stress. Why do so many of us stay in our comfort zone? Why are so many of us scared to make the life we deserve for ourselves? When you start to break out of your comfort zone you start to make new experiences and see what the world has to offer. Last summer, I radically broke out of my comfort zone by making new friends, going to concerts in the park, and going to a free yoga class. My friend and I started to try anything that seemed slightly interesting (even ballroom dancing under a disco ball with a bunch of elderly people.) And suddenly after trying all these new things, I started to feel more alive. I started to feel happier. Take that leap of faith instead of settling for mediocrity.

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” – Jen Sincero, You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life.

5. Embrace Yourself: As a whole, I think we could all do with a little more self love in our lives. You are an awesome, worthy, capable person. Stop putting yourself down so much and start loving your true self and the body that you are in. And please, please, stop comparing yourself to others!!! Comparison in an unhealthy way can be the greatest thief of happiness. So stop wishing you had a different life- instead, take a bubble bath, eat healthier, and drink more water, and just take care of yourself.

6. Wildcard: For months now I’ve been wanting to start a blog but I’ve been too scared. I decided that 2018 would be the year with risks, where I do what I want and stop doing what others want. Have your own wildcard this year. Try something new in 2018, and don’t let your fear hold you back. Cut off all of your hair, go for that promotion, start a blog, learn a new language, take a cooking class. Chase whatever sets your heart on fire and find your passion. At some point, you have to realize that everything you want is out there, you just have to be brave enough to go get it.

“But as for me, I will look to the Lord, I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.” Micah 7:7
